In case you missed it, I’ve started a new series recommending my favourite brunch spots in Christchurch. Today I want to share with you Little Pom’s.
Little Pom’s is a self proclaimed ‘cosy neighbourhood cafe’ on Kilmore Street offering breakfast, lunch and brunch. Their menu is interesting and puts a new spin on many brunch classics such as eggs benedict, hotcakes and porridge, as well as interesting dishes including hot smoked salmon and beef brisket.
I had the haloumi and smashed pea dish. I had heard a few people raving about it and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I swapped the toast for potato rosti and it became the perfect dish. There was an amazing balance of flavours between the poached egg, broccolini and smoked almonds and the haloumi was caramelised beautifully. I would definitely recommend this dish to anyone who is getting a little sick of smashed avo and wants to mix it up
If you’ve got a big appetite you’ll love the breakfast burger my sister had. Packed with eggs, bacon and lots of different pickles and sauces and served with a side of fries, this meal was so big, she couldn’t finish it.
It’s hard to go wrong with a classic eggs benny but I liked that Little Pom’s made theirs slightly different with smoked bacon, cheddar buttermilk biscuits, avocado, charred corn, and smoked jalapeño lime hollandaise. At $25 it’s probably more expensive than your standard eggs benedict but I think the quality is worthwhile.
The service and atmosphere at Little Poms are fantastic. The only downside is that they don’t take bookings at the weekends. I had tried to go twice before and given up as I didn’t want to wait half an hour for a table. So I would suggest going during the week if you can, or going early on the weekends.
Have you ever been to Little Pom’s? What was your favourite dish? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
